"Please, come closer," -Genesis 45:4
WOW! Joseph has just revealed himself to his brothers, the ones who betrayed him almost 20 years before. Joseph was his dad's favorite son among 12 brothers and as only favoritism can do, it caused problems. So, his brothers decided to get rid of him. First thought was to throw him in a pit and let him die but but then Judah, the 4th oldest, came up with a "better idea" - sell him into slavery.
Ripped from his family, his home, his dream to lead his family, Joseph would live the life of a slave and a prisoner, a favored one, but a slave none-the-less.
Now here he is, 2nd in command of an entire nation because he interpreted a dream Pharaoh had that revealed there would be 7 years of plenty in harvest, and then 7 years of severe famine. Since Joseph was the only one who could interpret his dream, Pharaoh felt Joseph was the only one who could manage such a grand project.
Joseph was able to reconcile in his heart and mind that all he had gone through was ultimately God's plan and not the sick, awful betrayal of his brothers. Although it was that, he realized that God's greater plan usurped any harm they ever meant to bring him! So he says..."Please, come closer..."
Come closer...you who betrayed me, turned your back on me, sold me, your own flesh and blood for pennies...come closer, he says to his brothers!
Can you hear the Father's voice? Can you hear the voice of the Lover of your soul? Jesus is desperate and repeatedly whispering to your heart, "Please, come closer."
Come closer... you...yes you, who harbors unforgiveness toward another yet you say you love Me. "Please, come closer."
Come closer...you who didn't think you were worth anything so you sold yourself for others to use you. "Please, come closer to Me."
Come closer... you, who seethes with anger and smiles when you walk through the doors of the church on Sunday, come closer; "Please, come closer."
Come closer...yes, even you who turned your back on Me for another man or another woman. You who cheated on your spouse, "Please, come closer."
Come closer... you, yes you over there with a broken heart on the inside and a smile on the outside, "Please, come closer."
"Draw near to Me and I will draw near to you." (James 4:8) "I will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5); I don't have to anymore. When you accepted my Son into your heart, I no longer see your sin, I see HIS blood and I see deep into your soul; and I love what I see, unconditionally."
Please...come closer!
I Love you, JESUS
