“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners” (Romans 5:8)
Sometimes we can get so locked onto the joys and celebration of Easter Sunday that we forget, if it weren’t for Friday, there would be no hope and celebration on Sunday. To Christians, Easter Sunday represents the resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ! But in order for there to be a resurrection, there had to be a death. Jesus didn’t just die a natural death; an accidental death; a death in old age. Jesus chose to get up from His seat of glory in heaven, and enter the world He created through the womb of a young woman. Jesus transferred from light into darkness so that you and I could transfer from darkness into Light. That’s LOVE!
Think of the worse day you ever had in your life. Did you wake up knowing the details of what was going to make it the worse day? Probably not. If you had, would you have been willing to place your feet on the ground, get up and face it? Probably not. Jesus woke up on Friday morning, knowing exactly what was going to happen that night. He tells His disciples when they got to the garden, “My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me” (Matthew 26:38). He went away from them and went deep into the garden and pleaded with God for another way. He started to feel the weight of what He came to do and in that moment, humanity tried to overcome glory! Jesus was more human in that moment than He had ever been and it was excruciating! That’s LOVE!
Three times He asked His God to find another way and then finally, He said it, “Yet not my will but yours be done!” (Matthew 26:39) That’s LOVE!
Have you ever let go? Have you ever reached the point where you stop fighting for your will to be done and finally surrender to the will and the way of the One who created you and knows best? The fight is exhausting isn’t it? Let go! I am learning that as Christ’s life grows in me, it is His ability to surrender that takes over and leads me to stop the fight. He has already surrendered to the worse kind of atrocity there is so any challenge I face, that calls for the surrendering of my will, is much less than what He faced on that Friday. There is great freedom in letting Jesus fill us and live through us! Just…let go!
Today is the day my Savior faced death head on! That’s LOVE!
There is a part of me that finds a little more strength in this day than any other! There is reason to find joy and celebrate the death of our Savior King as well. Yet, Sunday is a comin’ and because HE LIVES - I can live more freely than I ever could ask or imagine! Right now! This moment!
As we get ready to celebrate that Jesus Christ is ALIVE, let us not forget to remember it was through His death that LIFE came! That’s LOVE!
THANK YOU JESUS!
