I literally just asked God, "I want to be like the tree planted by the waters. I don't want to be moved anymore by circumstances, people or things LORD! I wanted to be deeply rooted like the tree! Show me how?"
There are times when God chooses to let me dig around a little and truly seek Him for an answer, but this morning, oh my Lord! He was right there and immediately reminded me of Psalm 1 and then showed me Jeremiah 17 and said, "...that's how you become that tree."
What do you and I have to do to no longer be moved by the things that cause us to be frustrated, angry, upset, unforgiving, impatient, aggressive, entitled...all of which we have a choice not be, regardless of who does what and what happens. What do I have to do?
1) Delight in the law of the Lord (Psalm 1:2)
2) Meditate on His Word day and night (Psalm 1:2)
3) Trust the Lord (Jeremiah 17:7)
4) Hope in the Lord (Jeremiah 17:7)
Look! He lays it out, plain and simple. What will make this difficult is our refusal to give up our way and to see justice the way we think it should happen. There are consequences for everything, the bad and the good. The consequences to becoming unmovable, we all want!
The very next verse in Psalm 3 tells us, the one who delights in His law and meditates on it day and night will be the one that is, "like a tree planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves [will] never wither, and they [will] prosper in all they do."
The next verse in Jeremiah 17 tells us the one who trusts and hopes in the Lord is, "like the tree planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. [They] are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit" (v. 8).
I wish I could leap through this blog and take your hand and dance with you! That's how my soul feels. I just feel like I just ran right into Jesus and that ALWAYS rocks my world! I LOVE it when He just bursts through the Heavens and comes to me directly! He said He would, if we would only ask.
Holy One! Today, may I delight in your law and meditate on it day and night! May I completely trust and hope in YOU alone so that I am no longer moved and instead, am like that tree planted firmly by the waters, bearing fruit, never withering, prospering, not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought! I want to be that tree with plush, green leaves constantly producing fruit! I love you Jesus! AMEN!
